Resurfacing Railway Track In The Rain and Snow
Track maintenance happens in one of two ways: one, when you derail and the track falls apart, and two, when you plan to improve an area that needs some attention.
It is this later reason that I'm out on the track today. Unfortunately, the weather decided to be uncooperative. Despite it raining and mixing with occasional snow, I decided to tackle a spot near the end of the track by the sugar house, where we load and unload wood pellets. You could say that it needed a little pick me up. This is all done with hand tools, except for ballast regulating. Shoveling, jacking and tamping, all done by hand as usual.
