Hawkgirl Costume with Articulating Wings and a Lightning Mace

Presenting....Hawkgirl!

This year Jocelyn wanted to be Hawkgirl for Halloween. Which seemed like an easy task...until I casually mentioned articulating wings, and then she just had to have wings that extended. Me and my big mouth! But the result was spectacular. I'm glad I figured out how to do it! Her left arm isn't as strong as her right arm, so she struggles with raising that wing.

PLUS, out of the blue Jocelyn asks me, "But mama, how are we going to make my mace 'laser-y'?". My response, "... *pause* .... I don't know! We'll figure it out!" I really need to figure out how to say no to this girl!

The wings are made from spliced and flattened PVC pipe bolted together and attached to a backpack. I then covered them with cloth and feathers. There are two handles in the back she uses to operate them.

I made a plaster mold of her head for the helmet and then shaped it with paper clay.

The mace is a plastic ornament, playdoh shaped spikes, dowel rod, and LED flashlight all covered with paper clay.
