Yeah, Riverdale. Honestly, the level of absurdity and camp made this show my favourite comfort insanity. I literally do not care that it makes zero sense or drags for too long or whatever. It's fun.
And these two? The idea of them has me obsessed since season 2 and damn, cannot believe they actually decided to do exactly what they should in the last season of the show. But I'll take it!
Here is my little AU before more of actual scenes come.

The story is this:
Jughead, Veronica, Archie and Betty finish school. All of the couples are not doing great and they break up but stay friends and decide to meet in Riverdale every year. Archie goes away to join military school and Betty travels to university right after graduation. It leaves just Jughead and Veronica in town for vacations. Veronica still manages Pop's and Jughead needs a summer job, so she let's him work there. They start to spend time together and actually have fun. It appears they have a lot in common, more than they ever allowed themselves to realize. Their parents are not thrilled with this... friendship. Because that's what both Veronica and Jughead call it. They're just friends. Who happened to kiss. And then spend a night together. And then another. But then summer ends and they both leave for their universities.
Next summer all four of them meet in Riverdale. Things between Veronica and Jughead remain a secret but they both still feel something and allow things to develop. The jelousy is there, tho. Jughead feels insecure because of Archie and Veronica stays cautious because of Betty. It's a rollercoaster of emotions and their visit in Riverdale ends with a fight and a definite break up.
Neither of them comes back to Riverdale for another 6 years. But Jughead cannot stop thinking about Veronica and what could have been so he calls her - quite drunk - and confeses his love and regret. And then he decides to show up in Riverdale at last, on the day when they were supposed to meet every year. And of course she comes as well. Because she loves him too.
