Exploring Hidden Yakushima Island | Japans Secret Paradise

Yakushima Island (屋久島) is a true island paradise, hidden in southern Japan. Yakushima is an island gem that holds many secrets. Traveling to Yakushima ranks as my favorite experience in Japan so far, and is a truely unforgettable experience. In this video we will hike to Jomon Sugi, explore the Shiratani Unsuikyo forest, climb inside the Wilson Stump, swim with turtles and explore tide pools uncovering the mysteries of Yakushima.Nothing like what you find on mainland Japan. Yakushima was the inspiration for the Miyazaki film Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke) located in Kagoshima Prefecture, the southern most part of Japan before Okinawa, and holds many treasures waiting to be discovered.There is so much more to the island, you can see coral reefs, hike in monkey and native yakushika deer forests, hatching loggerhead and green sea turtles. So much more is hidden on Yakushima, waiting for you to discover. You can access Yakushima by Jetfoil / hydrofoil in just two hours via Kagoshima Port (and even see flying fish on your way over) or take a quick sidetrip to Sakurajima, Japans iconic active volcano.
