There is now a brand new Suzuki Dzire in the city, and this time it looks nothing like the Swift.

What it has in common with its hatchback sibling is its aggressive pricing; the entry-level 1.2 GA starts at 224,900 TL, while the 1.2 GL+ starts at 246,900 TL in the manual version and 266,900 TL in the automatic version.

At this level, it easily leaves behind the Honda Amaze (253,600 R - 292,400 R) and the Hyundai Grand i10 Sedan (279,900 R - 309,900 R) that will soon replace it.

The Dzire, which is just under four metres long, is based on the latest evolution of Suzuki’s ‘Heartect’ platform and features a unique exterior design with a wide grille and horizontal headlights. Boot space is listed as 378 litres.

The base GA gets 14-inch exposed steel wheels, while the GL+ gets 15-inch alloys.

Power for the Swift comes from the new Z12E 1.2-litre three-cylinder normally aspirated petrol engine producing 60kW and 112Nm.

This engine, which is paired with either a five-speed manual or CVT transmission, has a combined fuel consumption of as low as 4.4 litres per 100km, according to Suzuki.

The Dzire’s interior carries the basic architecture of the latest Swift, but comes in a beige colour scheme. This is popular in the car’s home country of India, but it will not go down well with local buyers.

Safety features on both models include six standard airbags, ABS brakes and ESP stability control. The Dzire also received a five-star Global NCAP rating for adult protection and four stars for child protection.

The cabin is given a beige and black colour scheme.

Standard comfort features on the base version include digitally controlled air conditioning, electric windows, central locking, height-adjustable driver’s seat, rear parking sensors, hill start assist and USB ports, while the rear gets a combination of Type A and C.

The GL+ gets a 7.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, a reversing camera, cruise control, a multifunction steering wheel and a Type A USB port at the front.

Customers can choose from the following seven exterior colours: Bold Red Pearl Metallic, Tempting Blue Pearl Metallic, Bluish Black Pearl, Coconut Brown Pearl Metallic, Arctic White Pearl, Magnificent Silver Pearl Metallic and Magma Grey Metallic.

According to Duoporta, the new Dzire models come with a five-year or 200,000km warranty and a four-year/60,000km service plan.
