On the night of December 26, the Arakan Army (AA) released a video detailing the conditions of prisoners of war, including Deputy Commander Brigadier General Thaung Tun and Chief of Staff Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than, who were captured during the operation to seize the Western Command Headquarters in Ann, Rakhine State.

The video features an interview with Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than, who confirmed that he is under the custody of the AA. He attributed the fall of the Command Headquarters to the delayed arrival of reinforcements, which were reportedly encircled by AA forces. He further stated that the final stages of the defense were marked by severe shortages of food, weapons, ammunition, medicine, and water, resulting in significant injuries among personnel.

Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than highlighted the tactical prowess and strategies employed by the AA, as well as the challenging geographical conditions in Rakhine State, which hindered reinforcements. "The fall of the Western Command underscores the difficulty of sustaining operations in this region," he noted.

When asked for a message to the military leadership in Nay Pyi Taw and his family, Brigadier General Kyaw Kyaw Than remarked, "As a Commander-in-Chief, I urge you to humbly accept the loss in Rakhine State and consider the lives of the personnel on the ground. Stop bombing and terrorizing civilians. Continuing on this path will only breed resentment among army families and the public for generations."

To his family, he conveyed reassurance, stating, "I am in good health under the protection of the AA. Please do not worry."

The AA's video also includes footage showing detainees receiving food and medical care. The release has sparked further discussion regarding the conflict in Rakhine State and the conditions faced by captured personnel.
