ES 127 Refractor on Twilight One Mount & How to Adjust Mount.
The Explore Scientific 127 Triplet Refractor on the Twilight One Alt/Az Mount. The 127 is 5 lbs over the weight limit on this mount - but its still solid, I've seen a lot weaker mounts under some big scopes in the past. With this setup you just push the scope around the sky. There are no motors or electronics to get between you and the stars. Once viewing through the telescope you can use the slow motion controls to follow the motion of planets or the sky.
Best powers to use are between 50 and 150 x. At those powers, objects drift slowly through the field of view and vibrations are not really an issue. One big advantage of a refractor is the ability to go down to very low power with a wide field of view with no central obstruction to shadow the view. With a 56mm Meade 2" Eyepiece I can take the scope down to 17x with a 3 degree field of view. That might sound like a binocular view but remember the resolution (fine detail) and light grasp (The Whirlpool Galaxy and The Veil Supernova remnant are in reach) are off the chart for such a low power view.
