The UK government recently announced measures intended to cut immigration, including ending recruitment of care workers from abroad, raising English language requirements for immigrants and making it harder to acquire UK citizenship.
A total of 51 per cent of Scottish voters supported these measures with only 28 per cent opposed, according to the latest Norstat poll for The Times. This is up from 42 per cent who backed curbs to immigration in February last year and 38 per cent in September 2023 in surveys for Migration Policy Scotland.
Backing for immigration control is highest among Reform UK and Conservative voters, as well as those who voted for Brexit and against Scottish independence.
