Delhi CM Warns Private Schools Against Forced Book And Uniform Purchases

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has warned private schools against forcing parents and students to purchase books, uniforms, and stationery from specific vendors. Acting on a Directorate of Education (DoE) directive, she said schools must not impose 'single-vendor' or 'captive buying' systems and must allow free choice in the open market. The government has announced strict inspections and legal action against violators.

👉🏼 Govt Crackdown on School Vendor Practices - The DoE has reiterated that private unaided schools cannot compel purchases from designated vendors. CM Rekha Gupta stressed that parents must have full freedom of choice, warning schools against coercive commercial practices and urging transparency in academic material lists.

👉🏼 Monitoring and Enforcement Measures - Authorities will conduct surprise inspections to ensure compliance. Officials indicated strict action, including penalties, against violations. The move aims to curb commercialisation and reduce financial pressure on families.

👉🏼 The Logical Indian’s Perspective - Education must remain fair, accessible, and non-commercial. Should stricter nationwide rules protect parents' rights further?
