The TSA cut off my gun case's locks... while I was standing right there.

This was an incident that almost defied belief... while departing Florida, I had my gun case locked with my usual, proper Abloy padlocks. The check-in agent called down to the TSA baggage room and alerted them that a gun case was coming down on the belt.

I told the airline staff that I wanted to have the bag screened at oversize, but they insisted that it should go down the belt. I know this was wrong but they were adamant.

And, to my shock and horror... when a few minutes later they called again down to the Bag Room, we were told that the TSA had cut the locks off!

Since this was certainly not the first time that my team and I had locks cut off at MCO, this time I stood my ground and demanded to speak to people with authority who could answer for this repeated failure. I opted to intentionally miss my flight, but thankfully was able to meet Olga of the TSA and Melissa Morales of Delta operations.

They promised me that the would be re-training all of the staff at MCO and assured me that gun cases should ALWAYS be taken to oversize and not sent down on the regular belt.

So if you're flying out of Orlando, regardless of your airline, and someone tells you that your gun case will be fine on the regular luggage belt... push back and demand to speak to a supervisor immediately.

Drop Olga's name if you have to. Or ask if Lee Kair is still the Federal Security Director. If you're flying Delta, ask for Ms. Morales the ops lead.

Know that you are in the right and that the official policy is that gun cases should not be sent down on the belt and screened away from you... you deserve to be right there at Oversize and witnessing the TSA, and providing them with a key if they require it... in your presence.
