RussRep McGann Sonic Screwdriver

Another excellent entry by RussRep; the 1996 incarnation of the Sonic Screwdriver.

This version, carried by Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann in the 1996 film introduced a telescoping aspect instead of a sliding control section. This makes the prop go from about 8" to about 6" and makes it much easier to carry in a pocket. The design also included a brass band on the handle and a differently shaped head: more of a felt tip pen cap shape than a bullet.

As part of a team effort I provided Russ with all the research I had on this prop and when he created prototypes we offered opinions on what seemed right and what didn't. This video shows the end result and I feel this is easily his best work to date in the Doctor Who props field. The lines are clean and elegant, the action is smooth and the spring is strong enough to hold the telescoping section out solidly but not so strong that it takes effort to put it back down. Ten out of ten points on this replica.
