8 Qualities of a Catholic Man

Assumptions: you are going to Mass every Sunday and holy Day, and believe in all the Church teaches

Crisis in the Church today rests on the widespread failure of we Catholic men to be who God calls us to be.

1. Conquer sin in your life
- esp. habitual sin, esp. against purity
- but also anything like: gambling, drinking too much, anger, lying
- start practicing the opposite virtues, master yourself in small ways, start with intermittent fasting

2. Discern your vocation
- Seriously spend time in prayer and study to find whether God is calling you to marriage or priesthood/religious
- I'll focus on marriage vocation here since that is the vast majority

3. Cut out junk from your life
- does watching sports and talking about it dominate your weekends?
- you're spending your life watching what OTHER people are doing in a game instead of actually doing something yourself
- same goes for excessive video games, movies, shows, media

4. Grow in virtue
- including being the spiritual head of your home
- does your wife lead everything?
- start with daily vocal prayer (Rosary is great)
- now add in daily Mental Prayer, essential to becoming a saint
- read the Bible and Catechism

5. Spend time with your family
- warm authenticity
- camping, hunting, fishing with your children, esp. with your sons

6. Providing for your family
- control spending with a budget
- tithe
- start a side business
- expertise

7. Get physically strong
- heavy weight lifting
- get training for it
- importance of being able to physically protect your family, provide for them

8. Serve
- Knights of Columbus
- SVdP
- Teaching at your parish
- Leading a men's group
