CYCLE : Cascais to Guincho - Portugal
Welcome to Portugal!
This is a cycle trail from the seaside town of Cascais to Guincho Beach, just 25 kms from the capital, Lisbon.
The scenic road you will be cycling has been used in several TV productions and even a James Bond movie was shot at Guincho beach in the 60s.
The beach is famous for its golden sands and water sport activities. In the summer you have strong North-Western winds, which is great for kite surfing and windsurfing. In autumn and winter, the wind calms down and you´ll find some perfect waves. Several international surf and body board championships are being organized here regularly.
From Guincho beach you will also be able to see the Cabo da Roca, a cape which forms the westernmost extent of continental Europe. And behind that you will also see the Sintra mountains. Sintra is known for its many 19th-century romantic architectural monuments, which resulted in its classification as UNESCO World Heritage site. It has become a major tourist centre and in addition to the mountains and the nature park, Sintra is dotted with royal retreats, estates, castles and other buildings, including the mediaeval Castle of the Moors, the Pena Palace and Sintra National Palace.
