The Ultimate Dark Souls Beginner's Guide | Dark Souls 3 | Dark Souls 2 | Dark Souls 1 (spoiler free)

Ever wanted to get into Souls, but got turned off by all the talk about difficulty? Or maybe you tried it out and are stuck or got frustrated fast? Let me guide thee with this Dark Souls guide of mine. It will work for all Souls games and I kept it pretty much spoiler free.

I divided the content/tips into 10 topics and a collection chapter with tips, that didn't fit into the other 10. Even though I focus on Dark Souls 3 (DaS3), I mention Dark Souls 2 (DaS2) and Dark Souls 1 (DaS1), as well as occasionally Bloodborne and Demon's Souls, too. So if you can abstract a bit, it will work for every Souls game.

Obviously, this (beginner's) guide is aimed at people, who are new to the series and although I go quite in-depth, it's not for veterans.

Update: my gaming content will be on my 2nd channel: https://www.youtube.com/TPhGames
(at least some LotR related gaming videos will still be posted here on the main channel though)

► Additional Tips

1) My soft cap table is a bit messy. Or let's say stat soft caps in Souls are a bit more complicated:

E.g.: 50 Strength is not the direct soft cap in DaS1 (it's around 40), but 50 is the value, that let you use most Strength weapons with one hand. It can be ok-ish to go for 50 STR. 45 Dex is also only useful for the cast speed (DaS1), else go with 40. The DaS2 Adaptability soft cap is depending on your Attunement stat, and if you are just aiming for Agility, the soft cap must be around ~28. But in this case I wouldn't recommend to go much higher than 20 Adaptability. So 20 is not the true soft cap, and more my recommendation. Also some stats have multiple soft caps. Often expressed through x/y.

2) 2-handing a weapon costs more stamina, but "increases" the Strength attribute by the factor 1.5 and it changes the move set a bit. That is pretty much all there is to it. If you play a bleeding build, 1-handing your weapon can be more efficient against certain enemies, because you can hit more often, without regenerating stamina.

3) I don't know how clear this point became in the video: armor in Dark Souls 1 is far stronger, than in Dark Souls 3. It's also quite strong in Dark Souls 2. But in DaS3 you get hit stunned very easily (even wearing heavy armor) without hyperarmor (without hyperarmor pretty much with every hit) and the damage reduction is less impressive, but rolling is in its strongest state in the Dark Souls series.

4) I don't mention Boss Souls and Boss weapons, because they can be a trap. Some are really good, some are not. They also require a different upgrade material, that is quite rare. Same with Dragon Weapons in DaS1.

And then there are special Weapons. They require Twinkling Titanite (it's a bit rarer & expensive) to upgrade and almost all of them are very strong. Should you find one of them early, they will often make the early game a lot easier, but can also kill the challenge and make the game less fun. In DaS1 you can have a rare weapon drop early on, that can (almost) one shot some early bosses.

5) The "stability" stat determines the stamina drain on block. In addition all shields have different damage reduction stats. Having 100% physical means: you block a purely physical attack and you get no damage. 50% means: the same, only that half the damage comes through. Same with lighting, fire, magic, etc. Attacks can have multiple damage types at once.

6) Armors differentiate between different types of physical attacks: Regular (Battle Axe), Striking (Hammer), Slashing (Katana) & Thrusting (Rapier). Depends on the weapon's move set and some have multiple types.

Spoiler Free:
I only show start areas and the first Boss (Iudex Gundyr) of DaS3. He is pretty much a tutorial boss and a really good one.
