What followed the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru were the sixth staging of the Parapan American Games that's suitable for disabled athletes, and is celebrated from 23 August to 1 September 2019.

Lima, the capital of Peru, was picked as hosts to the 2019 Pan and Parapan American Games on 1 February 2013, being chosen in a landslide win over bids from Santiago in Chile, Ciudad Bolívar in Venezuela and La Punta in Argentina. The city was considered to be the favourite to win the hosting rights throughout the process.

The events were held in various Lima districts and neighboring cities, with most of them concentrated in the clusters of VIDENA, a complex in the San Luis District, the Pan American Park in Villa María del Triunfo, the Sports Village of Callao, and a sports complex in Costa Verde.

Lima welcomed 1,878 para-athletes from 30 participating nations for the event, which featured 370 medal events in 17 para sports. Badminton, taekwondo and para shooting had their debuts at the Lima Para Games, while seven of the 17 sports count as qualifying opportunities for the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics (later to be postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
