How To Invest Your First $1000 Right Now (2020)

Have only $1,000 to invest? Or do you have $1,000 to invest and are expecting more? I made this video for you. In this video I go over 4-5 very different things you can do to invest $1,000 - whether it's your first and only $1,000 or not, I hope that this video can provide some good ideas for you.

If you only have $1,000:
1. You need to prioritize your $1,000 in the best way possible so that you can get more income. At this point, I am going to assume you don't have much of an income. Your focus right now, as cheesy as it sounds, should be to invest the money in yourself in order to make more than $1,000 regularly. To do this, you can learn a skill for under $1,000 and start to trade this skill for more money in the economy. The example I use in the video is photography, but there are a lot of side hobbies and skills you can learn that can increase your income with $1,000. Invest it in yourself, skills, knowledge - and you will make more money so that you can employ some of the strategies in the second situation.

If you have $1,000 and are expecting more - here's what I personally like investing in:
1. Roboadvisors - Least Active - automated management, for the "set it and forget it" crowd. Good products with low fees which is always a good thing. This is for a super super long time horizon.

2. Index Funds - index funds let you buy a collection of stocks in one single vehicle. You get exposure to all the stocks in the index funds (a small %) so that it's diversified, typically they come with low fees, especially S&P 500 ETFs such as VOO. Dividend ETFs are also good here like SPHQ and SPHD.

3. A collection of stocks - Dividends preferred. Dividends provide passive income that let your investment portfolio gain while you still own the stocks. Some of the companies are very reliable with their dividend (think Coca Cola, AT&T, 3M, JJ, etc).

Having an extra skill or credential can increase your income potential massively.

Investing Starts with Saving
Why save $?
- Company pensions are a thing of the past
- Social Security is only for older generations, could be gone by the time you retire
- You must provide your own financial security

But….I’m only 18....
- Save for college/masters/first purchases
- Save for major purchases
- Build a “rainy day” fund
- The sooner you start, the better….
