During this spellbinding speech, the dark forces must have become somewhat rattled, because - for the one and only time - the police were deployed in a shield formation protecting the hotel. Did they fear that Alex would provoke the crowd to break through the barrier and march on the meeting?

It must also be stated that the police were outstanding, good-natured, calm, non-confrontational, and a credit to themselves.
