Hotline dialing (aka the Batphone) is the ability for a phone to automatically dial an extension or phone number as soon as the handset is lifted. This can be done very easily on most models of VoIP phone, and can even be done with an ATA to give hotline dialing capabilities to older non-VoIP handsets.

In this video I demonstrate a quick hotline dialing setup I did with a Raspberry Pi running Incredible PBX, 3 inexpensive VoIP phones, and a Cisco ATA (Analog Telephony Adapter) for my antique Automatic Electric Model 40. This whole setup took me about 2-3 hours to complete, and now it can be used for an art installation project for a buddy of mine.
