The Rod Verses In Context FREE PDF at www.payhip.com/TheRodReconsidered
It’s interesting how certain verses and interpretations get elevated and emphasized in parenting conversations.
Not because they’re the most consistent…
but because they’re the most controllable.
They seem practical. Immediate. Actionable.
They promise order when things feel chaotic.
And when you’re overwhelmed, that’s incredibly appealing.
But zoom out and the rest of Scripture tells a very different story:
Teach.
Be patient.
Show mercy.
Don’t provoke.
Guide the heart.
Not quick control...
Deep formation.
And that kind of parenting is harder.
It requires discernment.
Dependence on God - not just a method.
Patience when nothing changes overnight.
Humility when you don’t have easy answers.
It means accepting that growth is messy…
and that you can’t control your child's actions - you can only faithfully teach, correct, and guide.
So it’s worth asking:
Are we building our parenting on what’s most emphasized in Scripture...
or what gives us the strongest sense of control?
Because those aren’t always the same.
And when you look at how God parents us, and the rest of the instructions to parents in scripture -
it doesn’t look like quick control.
It looks like patience, instruction, and a long, steady process of loving, patient transformation.
