TBRI® Animate: Human Trafficking

Over the past twenty years, our institute has seen TBRI®, applied across various communities of care and practice. Through a partnership with the Office of the Texas Governor Child Sex Trafficking Team, our Institute is currently involved in a statewide project focused on implementing TBRI with professionals who support survivors of sex-trafficking and other forms of commercial sexual exploitation.

Individuals who have experienced exploitation are among the most traumatized groups. Sadly, the risk factors that often predispose these individuals to exploitation in the first place are related to early childhood trauma. As our late founder and director, Dr. Karyn Purvis once said, “Relationship-based trauma must be healed relationally.” It is our hope that TBRI can support survivors of exploitation as they seek healing.

As part of our partnership with the Office of the Texas Governor, this short animate explains how trafficking affects individuals and society. We look forward to sharing more details about our work with survivors of trafficking and the professionals who serve them.
