Venus Flytrap Repotting and Soil Mix | Summer 2024 Update
I show the process of Venus flytrap repotting using a DIY soil mix made with sphagnum peat moss, sphagnum moss, and Dollarama soil. The video focuses on mixing the soil, adding water, and repotting the flytraps into orchid pots with good drainage. This was filmed in July 2024 as part of my summer gardening series.
🌟 INTERESTING FACT 🌟
The Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula), also known as tipitiwitchet or meadow clam, is native to subtropical wetlands of the southeastern United States. Despite their exotic reputation, these carnivorous plants are surprisingly hardy. Venus flytraps enter a dormancy period in winter, where their leaves die back, but this is a natural part of their cycle. New growth emerges in spring.
Each trap typically lives for about 10–12 closes before turning black and dying, but this is normal. As long as the rhizome (root structure) is healthy, new traps will continuously grow. Proper care, including distilled water, high humidity, and nutrient-poor soil like sphagnum moss, is essential for their survival. Fertilizers or tap water can quickly harm or kill them.
