Thinking Like a System: Holistic Approaches to Conservation
In today’s complex and rapidly changing world, static and reductionist approaches to conservation are increasingly seen as problematic. Effective conservation needs to embrace complexity and seek holistic, community-centered solutions. Conservation must occur across the landscape and align with local livelihoods/lifeways while promoting resilience. Social-ecological systems approaches to conservation focus on the dynamic interrelatedness of coupled human/ecological systems and seek to understand interactions and feedbacks within the entire system rather than just focusing on one component at a time. This educational documentary video highlights how thinking like a system can promote conservation and enhance resilience.
