DURATION: 6m17s -- It's amazing what a brisk stroll in the middle of a --11C winter can do for your global perspective. Seeing Muscovites clad in their warm -- albeit highly-sartorial -- clothing, walking to and from their jobs, carrying about their day with purpose. There is a deep well of meaning in this.

It's about national pride. It's about respect for hallowed traditions. And it's a healthy brand of patriotism. Russians' and Poles' connections to their joint pasts is mighty. Their bond with the antiquity of their peoples, to "what brung them to today," to who they are at their essence, at their genuine core.

This is what you intimately realize the more time you spend east of the Oder and Neisse river systems.

I can't express how grateful I am to be able to spend these past few days -- and months -- in the former Bloc and former USSR. Eminently, irrefutably grateful.

When you spend enough time in Russia and Poland, you clearly see where things have gone utterly pear-shaped in North America (US/Canada). The tea leaves are clearly legible. The West is irreversibly doomed.
