RTV900 rear axle repair: Putting it back together

READ THIS: You need to install the rear shackle/bolt assemblies into the axle support bar sections BEFORE you reconnect it to the transmission inside u-joint assemblies. The boot inside the outer assemblies will not let you put the shackle in place if you install the support bar first. I'm just say'n.

The tip is to have the u-joints lined up so that the key notch is on top for both sides. Use something to mark the wheel mount plate to show where the key pline is located. (It has a simple tack weld at the front, and is not solid all the way back.) That mark, and the key mark on the inner axle, help you get things lined up quickly.

This process can be done by one person using jacks to support the axle support bar at the wheels an hitch mount. Probably a lot easier if you have someone to help you.

Connect one side first, sliding the boot up into place, then slide the other side into place.

Connect the two sides to the leaf springs.

You're in the home stretch! Just make sure you have tightened anything that you loosened.

WAIT 24 hours to let the gasket seal cure before refilling the transmission.
