Third Reich Swing: Oskar Joost Tanz-Orch. - Notenhochzeit, 1936

Oskar Joost Tanz-Orchester -- Notenhochzeit (Wedding of the Notes), Foxtrot (Kötscher), Grammophon 1936 (Germany)

NOTE: Oskar Joost was born in Alsace in 1898 to a musical German family (his father was a cellist in military). In 1914, Oskar volunteered into a Prussian army and took part in the First World War. In 1924, after having learned to play several instruments (violin, tenor sax and clarinet) he and his brother Ali, who played drums, established a dance band billed as Oscar Joost Tanz-Orchester (with "c" instead of "k" in Oskar's name). From 1930, the Orchestra began playing in the hi-soc Berlin Eden hotel, which led to a recording contract with Electrola, followed by contracts with Kristall (1931--1934), Telefunken (1932), Grammophon (1934--1941). In 1933, Oskar Joost joined the Nazi Party, again spelling his name with a 'k'. When Joost was enlisted in 1940, his orchestra continued under Rudi Juckeland. Oskar rose to the rank of lieutenant, and in January 1941 he was moved from the Western Front to the Eastern Front, where he was seriously wounded. He died in a hospital in Berlin, in May 1941.
