PARORI - FLORINA

Parori is a small underpopulated village, located approximately ten kilometres north west of Florina town. Formerly known as Bitusha, it was renamed Parori on August 13, 1926. The name Parori loosely means in Greek, out of view as it is hidden from view of the main road within a tight gorge. The village had once been known as Sokoleo after a Byzantine aristocrat called Sokolea. Later it became known by the Turks as Bitusha, a name whose meaning is unknown.

The village is located at an elevation of 678 metres above sea level and is surrounded by forests of oak and birch trees. The Holy church of Saint Dimitrios was constructed in 1838 and contains many old icons. The school house of Parori was built in 1914 and remains a neat centrepiece of the village. Census results gathered from 2012 indicate that Parori is populated by twenty three permanent residents.
