Something that bothered me immediately with the MonoPrice Select Mini 3D printer was the filament holder arm. I didn’t like the fact that it was made of square steel and that it was mounted at 90 degrees to the printer. It didn’t spin smoothly and pulled the filament at an odd angle.

I decided to make a new filament holder that would be mounted parallel to the printer and be able to spin much easier. I ended up making the filament holder out of plywood and PVC pipe. It’s simple design simply snaps onto the frame rail of the 3D printer and doesn’t require any complicated brackets. The PVC pipe allows for very smooth unrolling of the filament spool with very low friction, no wheel bearings are needed.

This is a great modification that you can easily make for your printer, which prevents any clogging and jamming from stuck filament.
