Karen Guerrillas Capture Myanmar Army Camp
Ethnic Karen guerrillas burned down a Myanmar military outpost, Friday, May 7, as seen in footage shared by the Karen National Liberation Army.
According to a Karen National Liberation Army officer, the garrison at the camp fled at their approach, allowing the guerillas to take the base without a fight.
The Karen National Union has been fighting for decades for greater autonomy in the region.
It has denounced the military takeover of the government and has given shelter to opposition figures evading arrest.
Myanmar’s military has retaliated to the guerilla attacks with airstrikes, forcing an estimated 50,000 people to evacuate their homes in recent weeks. (AP)
