ASW28 modified for FPV

I have basically used a Volantex ASW28 electric glider. I’ve removed the wheel and cover to make space for two 3S 2200 mAh batteries and patched the wheel opening with a plastic sheet.

Brushless motor: Volantex 4023 KV1050 Brushless Motor instead of the original 4023/850KV one. I swapped the propeller with Aeronaut Propell folding 12x 6 Carbon. Be aware of making a rejecting device to stop the prop to flip off the canope.

I have extended all control surfaces 100% (or more) and foiled all EPO parts, wings, hor. and vert. stabilizer and all control surfaces with Oracover transparent.

I use my good «old» Spektrum Dx8 G2 Tx on the ground with a Eachine LCD5802D 5802 5.8G 40CH 7 Inch FPV Monitor with DVR mounted on top of the TX. It is not very good for FPV flying, but useful on setting up before takeoff and a backup DVR. After some investigations, I landed on the Eachine EV200D 1280*720 5.8G 72CH True Diversity FPV Goggles. These have got very good reviewes for a reasonable price here on YouTube. Antennas on the goggles are 2 Realacc TFP-Mini Triple Feed Patch Dia. 45mm 5.8G 8dBi FPV Flat Panel Pagoda Antennas With Terminator, and 2 AOMWAY 5.8G 3dBi RP-SMA Male Four Lobe RHCP VTx/VRx FPV Antennas.

On board I have a Lemon Rx DSMX Compatible 10-Channel + Lemon Rx DSMX Compatible Satellite. I see that Lemon has discontinued this product and replaced it with the same RX with diversity antennas. This may be right because I struggle a bit with range on the original one. (I’ve ordered a new one with diversity antenna.) I’ve mounted the satellite back at the vert. stabilizer with the antennas mounted vertically to obtain the best range.

Then there is the Arkbird 2.0 Lite flight controller, a fantastic piece, PNP, no soldering, but you have to read through the manual thoroughly. The kit includes M8N GPS antenna, 3S current sensor, update tools and full set cables.

My FPV camera, a CADDX Turbo SDR1 1/2.8 2.0mm (discontinued on Banggood), is mounted on top of a servo recessed into the fuselage behind the canope. That makes me able to pan the camera more than 90 degrees bouth ways. Right behind the camera I’ve made a small foundation for the GPS antenna, and a bit behind the GPS I’ve strapped on the VTx, a Eachine TS5828S 40CH 5.8G 600MW RP-SMA Female FPV Transmitter Boscam Skyzone Upgrade with a AOMWAY 5.8G 3dBi RP-SMA Male Four Lobe RHCP VTx/VRx FPV Antenna.

At last I have a Hawkeye Firefly Q6 4K 1080P 60FPS HD Mini Camera mounted on top of the tail. This camera has limited batteri capasity, so I have connected it to the ballance contact on the battery. Likewise I have connected green LED lights on the starboard winglet, red LEDs on the port winglet and blue LEDs (I thought blue was more visible than white) on the tail.

This is my setup for my third build of the ASW28. I think it flies very well, it looks good and it’s fun to fly. Please LIKE and SUBSCIBE.
