Watch The Goldbergs Girl Scouts on The Film Detective

Molly attends a meeting of the Ladies' Club, and she volunteers to become the new Brownie leader for the Girl Scouts. Their former leader Mrs. Miller must move away due to her husband's job transfer, and Mrs. Miller selects Molly to take over. Molly meets Mrs. Allen, who trains her and several other women in all the Girl Scout duties. Mrs. Allen begins with teaching the star constellations to spark an interest in astronomy, and how to help a fainting woman as well. For two weeks, Molly studies the guidebook, learns the songs, understands the rules, and even becomes aware of poison ivy and poison oak to avoid on nature walks which she insists upon showing the family at the dinner table. Molly becomes very excited to meet her troupe. However, when the girls meet her, they don't want to participate in any of Molly's activities. They are also cold and distant with her since she is not Mrs. Miller. She tries to display rope knots, which she mixes up and further loses the respect of the girls. Since Molly is crushed and embarrassed, she lies to Jake and David that the girls adored her. Jake, who has never been happy with Molly's desire to work for the Girl Scouts, advises her to quit and move on. The doorbell rings, and Susie, one of the girls, comes in to apologize for her inappropriate and rude treatment of Mrs. Goldberg under the orders of her mother. Susie says that all the girls' mothers feel the same way her mother feels. Molly vows to find a way to win the girls over. At the next meeting, Susie is the only girl present. After the meeting, Molly takes her out for an ice cream soda, and she learns that what would make the girls happy is to go on an overnight hike. Molly promises she will arrange it, but then she gets a phone call from an angry and upset Mrs. Allen saying that it does not state in the regulations that Brownies are of an age to go on an overnight hike. Also, Susie has told all the other girls about the overnight hike already, and they are very excited about it. Molly is devastated that she can not keep her promise, until she realizes that the sleepover can be done in her yard. All the parents are at Molly's playing canasta, a card game, while Molly and the girls retire for the night in pup tents under the stars.
