Our dog has been on the road for 18 months as we travel in our Rv. We made some mistakes and learned a lot- in fact, our dog Mango didn't hardly eat the first month.

Liz and Paul provide some tips of what to bring and how to prepare your dog before you travel, as well as some good ideas on how to make it easier on your pet once you are on the road.

TIPS - see links to products ABOVE
1. Visit the vet for a check-up
2. Get the recommended shots
3. Bring proof of shots with you (you'll need them for boarding, and to cross the border)
4. Bring your dog's medications
5. Make sure your dog's collar has your mobile contact info
6. Bring a recent photo of your dog....just in case
7. Bring the grooming supplies (see LINKS above)
8. Bring a crate (even if you don't normally use one)
9. Bring a travel harness
10. Use a travel pad or rug
11. Remember to take breaks when traveling
12. Try out any new travel/camper bowls BEFORE hitting the road
13. Bring a travel water bowl
14. Be sure to stay in dog-friendly places
15. We recommend a two-length leash with harness (see LINKS above)
16. Remember the poo bags
17. We recommend a retractable cable (see LINKS above)
18. Consider a portable fence
19. Bring dog food
20. Have a plan for storing 30 lbs of dog food
21. Remember any supplements and vitamins
22. Pack your dog's favorite toys
23. Pet-proof your camper
24. Introduce your dog to your camper, rv or motorhome before traveling
25. Withhold food before travel
26. Have a plan for your dog on hot days
27. Add the nearest 24-hour vet to your phone, each time you move
28. Have a travel routine
29. Let your dog explore the new area as soon as possible
