Alpena - Departure from Superior - September 2017

The oldest operating bulk carrier on the Great Lakes, built in 1942, is seen here departing from Superior, Wisconsin on September 12, 2017. The Alpena had entered on the Duluth side the day before and discharged her cargo of cement at the Graymont Superior facility. As is often the case, she departs on the Superior side... which prevents her from having to turn around in the harbor.

Unfortunately, she didn't offer up a salute on her departure, but just seeing her in operation is still a rewarding experience.
