Generational Wealth Creation In Townships Is Simpler Than We Realise | Lonwabo Marele | TEDxCapeTown

The majority of previously disadvantaged people in South Africa live in townships. Townships are defined as areas that were designated under apartheid legislation for exclusive occupation by people classified as blacks, coloreds and Indians. Since the demise of apartheid, townships have undergone a dramatic transformation from a homogenous to a differentiated urban landscape. This is a result of successful businesses and some people finding the right places to invest. But a lot of people are still left in the loop. Yet, wealth creation information for people in and from townships has never been simpler and easier to find, we just have to know where to look. Through storytelling, we can deepen people's understanding of the power of wealth creation, for the next generation, in townships and the African diaspora. Lonwabo (Lobz) Marele is a multimedia journalist, media entrepreneur, philanthropist, and public speaker who aims to create a hub of multimedia entrepreneurs throughout the African landscape.

Through sports and life skills programmes, this co-founder and deputy chairman of the NGO Ngcayisa and Marele Foundation, helps the homeless and youth in previously disadvantaged societies with education and nutritional programmes.

Through these experiences, and those gained through founding and running Successful Journals - a digital wealth magazine and consulting agency - Lobz discovered that generational wealth creation in our townships is simpler than we realise.
