Banksy's 10 most amazing works of art! #2

10: If you don’t succeed call an airstrike

Who is Banksy? The street artist has kept his identity closely hidden. The Bristol-based street artist is infamous for his provocative images. He has done this all over the globe in some of the most politically charged areas. He has even gone as far as to create a whole theme park called Dismaland! Here we go with round two. Best of Bankst...or whatever the title is

9:Let them Eat Crack

Banksy’s enormous Street Rat: Let Them Eat Crack was created in 2008 in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. The giant piece, covering a whole side of a New York building, was created with a permit from the city of New York. The Bristol artist took on Marie Antoinette’s quote “Let them eat cake,” which was referencing French peasants, with Banksy’s particular spin instead, being “Let them eat crack,” voicing Wall Street’s views towards the middle and lower classes.

With the money falling out of the rat's briefcase it can be seen that the rat is painted to resemble a Wall Street figure inhibiting New York City. By using the word “crack” in the place of “cake” Banksy suggests that the wealthy 1% of New York are out of touch and insensitive to the problems of the poor communities, for instance, crack, an extremely addictive drug usually found in lower-income areas.

8.Flower Thrower
This iconic work from the street artist continues to stand out among all of Banksy’s work. The subject, who appears to be involved in a riot, wears a handkerchief and backward cap and is depicted armed with a bouquet of

flowers instead of a Molotov cocktail. The complete work was created in black and white, except for the flowers, which were in color. The work has been reproduced in the form of prints, phone cases, T-shirts, and even tattoos. This pice is arguably one of Banksy's most recognizable works.

8: Simpsons Intro

the animated show took that to a new level by airing a dark, extended opening title sequence — created by UK graffiti artist Banksy — that depicted Asian workers laboring over Simpsons animation and merchandise. The effect was rather stark and piercing: The first few 35 seconds of the sequence feature the near-usual credits, except for a few “Banksy” tags on prominent Springfield buildings, before rather unexpectedly veering into a depressing tour of overseas sweatshop facilities, where legions of workers slave over Simpsons animation stills (see: photo here!), kill kittens to stuff Bart Simpson dolls, and even use a chained unicorn to punch out the center of Simpsons DVDs.

anti-immigration banners was deemed too controversial and open for misinterpretation to remain in situ. The work located in the seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea was a key political hotspot as a by-election was to take place following the local MP’s defection to UKIP, a political party noted for their anti-immigration policies.

6.One Nation Under CCTV, 20086

One Nation Under CCTV is A piece that stands out even though it has since been removed, Banksy took to a large London wall back in April of 2008 to creative the politically charged piece. A commentary on the UK’s surveillance-captured society, the towering work read “ONE NATION UNDER CCTV,” and featured a depiction of both a child-sized artist and a watchful security guard. The greatest irony being that the artist had to scale a wall and erect scaffolding to paint the artwork—located right next to those omnipresent CCTV cameras, which failed to capture his identity.

5. Follow Your Dreams (Cancelled), 2010

In May of 2010, this Banksy appeared in the low-income area of Chinatown in Boston, Massachusetts. The image featured a tired-looking male painter standing next to the seemingly painted on word, “FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS” Stamped with an official ‘state cancellation’. Over time the work has become one of Banksy’s more popular works, even being produced in canvas prints and posters.

4.Banksy’s Girl With Balloon is a very recognizable work from the artist. The original work depicts a young girl losing a heart-shaped balloon to a gust of wind. There is also a small quote etched into the staircase that reads, “There is always hope.”…

Dismaland: Bemusement Park, 2015

3. As Banksy’s website states ‘a festival of art, amusements and entry-level anarchism’. Dismaland is the artist’s newest and rather surprising creation, a group show as a biting satire of Disneyland, and as the Grim Reaper rode the dodgems, something was stirring beneath the surface: an intentionally unsatisfying customer experience to hammer home the point!

In 2. the late summer of 2005, Banksy turned up at the Israeli West Bank barrier leaving behind nine pieces on the wall that separates the country from the landlocked Palestinian territories. Banksy’s parodied the politically volatile situation. Although in an area that is constantly patrolled, the artist’s works were very large in scale.
