Woodturning a Rustic Locust Bowl

This was an absolute beast to turn! Super heavy and off balance, it fought me the whole way. But I'm always up for a challenge! Locust, I think it's the honey variety, is a very hard wood, and one I'd never turned before, and not one I'll seek out in the future. But, it is a very beautiful wood with a lot of grain variation.

Last year when I met Doug Moore, of The Pohl Barn Productions fame on YouTube, he was very generous and gave me this big ugly chunk of meanness... and I enjoyed every ornery bit of it!

During the subscriber project segment of this video, I show a beautiful segmented bowl made by Van Matthews. He is raising money for a great cause: the Alzheimer’s Association. This is a very good cause, and one that is near and dear to my heart, so I want you to know that I really appreciate any support that can be given to Van in his efforts. An added bonus is that if you donate $25.00 you will have a chance to win the beautiful segmented bowl shown in this video, made by Van. Here’s the link to his fundraiser: https://act.alz.org/site/TR/ActiveEvents/SC-SouthCarolina?px=5454332&pg=personal&fr_id=13084
