Tango Ocho cortado: the traditional way + a new variation (leaders & followers)
Dear tango dancer,
Recently we were invited to a tango party organized by the Argentinian embassy London.
It was at the ambassador’s house, and visiting the house alone was worth it ;)
A gorgeous white house overlooking Hyde Park with high ceilings, 3 dancing rooms with beautiful wooden floors, and windows, mirrors and ornaments all around.
Beyond (or despite) the glamour, it was one of those tango parties that felt traditionally Argentinian: Warm, relaxed, fun…
And this is the spirit we’re channeling for this week’s video lesson.
Our goal is to help you add more creativity to your dancing easily by taking a movement you have probably already practiced, the ocho cortado, a step further.
The ocho cortado is very traditional in tango: it is one of the pillars of our dancing.
And one thing that we love about it is that it is simple yet offers so many possibilities for variations!
Join us in this week’s video lesson to:
- Review the steps of the ocho cortado, so that your dancing becomes more fluid and precise (especially in the rebound)
- Learn a beautiful “mirror” variation where the leader decorates at the same time as the follower (perfect to add a more unique flavour to your dancing)
- Practice how the lower body is moving as a consequence of the changes in your upper body, to make your movements look more organic
We hope it helps x
