Martin Snow has taken me to Dog Lane in Steyning in West Sussex. As well as exploring towns and villages, and getting a simple snap shot of the place, it is occasionally nice to investigate the detail of just one street and unearth its secrets.

Steyning is a bustling town at the foot of the South Downs, six miles north east from Worthing .
