Scott Ainslie: Most Important Left-Hand Skill for Slide Guitar

This short cell phone video presents the fruit of my teaching yesterday.

As I was struggling to make clear to my compadre how to reposition his left hand as he addressed the guitar to play slide, I decided to have him unmount the slide and just focus on hand posture.

It was helpful to isolate for a moment the hand from the music.

Many of us have decades of ingrained habits for holding the instrument and addressing it with both hands, shoulders, and arms.

Adding another arrow to that quiver as one takes up slide guitar can take some focused attention. And tricking the brain and body into a new way of touching the guitar is a part of effectively teaching this skill.
