2021 PORSCHE 718 CAYMAN GT4 RS SPIED TESTING AT THE NÜRBURGRING

This time I have filmed the 2021 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS testing on track.

Enthusiasts had been hoping for an ‘RS’ version of the first-generation Porsche Cayman GT4 but, unfortunately, it never happened. However, it appears increasingly likely that the current-generation 718 GT4 will indeed spawn an RS variant.

Recently I snapped the Cayman GT4 RS undergoing tests at the Nurburgring and, in this video, we get to hear the track-focused sports car for the first time, and it both looks and sounds the part.

Immediately making this prototype stand out from the regular GT4 are a host of new exterior parts, including a bespoke hood with NACA ducts.

The test car also features a custom bumper, center-locking wheels, and enlarged brakes. Porsche also seems to have replaced the rear-quarter glass with air intakes to feed the engine. Moreover, at the rear we can see a towering wing with swan neck uprights that are similar in design to the wings of recent GT3 RS prototypes we’ve seen.

Powering the Cayman GT4 RS will be an upgraded version of the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six found in current Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder. In its current form, this engine is good for 414 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque, but Porsche will obviously increase those figures for the RS.

Although nothing is official yet, we wouldn’t be surprised if the GT4 RS’ output hovered somewhere around the 450 hp mark, providing the sports car with a decent amount of added performance over the GT4, but not enough to encroach on the upcoming 911 GT3 and GT3 RS.
