US Unveils “New Gaza” Plan at Davos, Proposal Sparks Criticism Over Sovereignty Concerns

The United States has unveiled an ambitious plan for a “New Gaza”, openly outlining a role in shaping and controlling post-war Gaza’s future.

The proposal was presented by US officials this week at the World Economic Forum in Davos as part of discussions on long-term reconstruction and stability.

According to BBC, the plan envisions rebuilding Gaza almost from scratch, with modern housing, roads, hospitals, schools, and utilities, alongside a Mediterranean waterfront, industrial hubs, and major projects such as a port and an airport.

The US says large-scale rebuilding would begin only after fighting ends, armed groups are disarmed, and new governance arrangements are put in place under international supervision, with foreign governments and private investors funding reconstruction.

However, the proposal has drawn sharp criticism, with observers warning it ignores Gaza’s immediate humanitarian crisis and raises concerns about security conditions, Palestinian participation, land rights, and political sovereignty.

As ceasefire talks remain fragile, critics caution the plan risks remaining a distant vision amid harsh realities on the ground.
