Very Cool Schindler Miconic 10 System at the Westin Galleria Hotel in Houston Texas
This is the first Miconic 10 system I have ever filmed. I believe they used to be Otis. It was not in the video, but these elevators classic level.
This system is not only cool, but VERY efficient. The Miconic 10 boasts that it can be up to 30% more efficient than traditional systems!
How does it work? The Miconic 10 knows where a passenger wants to go before they even step in the elevator. The passenger types in the floor they want to go to, and the system uses special algorithms to detect what passengers are going to the same floor, what elevator cars are nearby, where the elevator cars are going to, etc. The system then assigns a car that will get the passenger(s) to their destination faster and more efficiently. All of this computing happens in a matter of seconds.
Once the assigned car arrives and the doors open, indicators mounted on both sides of the door frame show what floors that elevator is stopping at. After the elevator moves all of the passengers to their floors, it will pick up more passengers.
The system also has a special handicap mode. If a passenger with disabilities wants to go to a floor, he can press the handicap button. The handicap button will activate a special mode where the system talks to the passenger, guiding him or her to their elevator and their floor. It extends the door open time for wheelchair loading, as well as assigning a car that will not make frequent stops on other floors. After the passenger arrives at their floor, handicap mode deactivates until someone else presses the handicap button.
An example of a typical system in a crowded lobby:
A group consisting of 6 passengers (Group A) wants to go to the 12th floor.
Another group consisting of 4 passengers (Group B) wants to go to the 8th floor.
3 other passengers (Group C) wants to go to floors 4, 9, and 14.
1 handicap passenger (Group D) wants to go to floor 5.
After all of the passengers have keyed in their floors, the system will assign cars to the groups as follows:
Group A will take Car A to the 12th floor. Since all 6 passengers are going to the same floor, they will take the same car.
Group B will take Car B to the 8th floor. Again, all 4 passengers are going to the same floor.
Group C will take Car C to floors 4, 9, and 14. None of these passengers want to go to the same floor as anyone else, so they will take a different car.
Group D will take Car D to the 5th floor. Since Group D is a handicap passenger, he will be on a non-stop ride to the 5th floor.
