Teddy Bear Bees 🧸🐝💛

Teddy Bear Bees (Amegilla) are native Australian bees. Teddy Bear Bees have golden brown colouring and range from 15-20mm in length. They are native solitary bees and they make small shallow burrows in soil or eroded banks. They are kind of like Australia's version of a bumblebee 🐝💛

Here you can see a Teddy Bear Bee collecting nectar from Pentas flowers, and while doing that she is also pollinating the plant 🌱💚 The bee is lured to the flower for a sugary drink of nectar and while doing that also transfers pollen to other flowers on her furry body.

The process of pollination involves these tiny grains going from the male part of one flower - called the anther, onto the female part of another - called the stigma.
When this happens, the genetic information contained inside the pollen is transferred from flower to flower.

So pollination is, basically, the way that plants make babies. 💛
