36 years ago today, Bon Jovi played the 7th headlining show of the enormous Slippery When Wet Tour, their first ever concert in Yokohama. The album was released just 2 days before the gig, and the audience is still very unfamiliar with the new tracks. The song selection is pretty unique, it's mainly tunes from the first two albums with some new melodies thrown in there, pretty much the perfect setlist for lovers of the early years. Unfortunately, Livin' On A Prayer wasn't performed at all during this leg of the tour, the biggest reason for that is most likely Jon's disbelief in the song's success, but some time ago I read somewhere that they actually intended to play the song but forgot to bring the talkbox to Japan and that's why it was excluded from the set. Listening to Jon's speeches on this one is very much worth it, it's quite fun to hear how excited he is to play the new tracks (especially I'd Die For You, which according to him they didn't play at their previous concert in Tokyo), but there also other subtle moments that make this a very interesting listen, for example; no intro to Wanted, or the outro of You Give Love A Bad Name shifting straight into the last documented performance of Shot Through The Heart. The audio quality is quite raw, there is some input clipping but you can clearly hear every instrument, which is something I personally love about this recording. The audio files couldn't me merged together without a few milliseconds of silence between them, a crossfade effect was used to attempt to hide the gaps and make the listening experience more immersive.
