You're Automating a Bad Process (Here's How to Tell) #digitaltransformation #plm #aerospace

"Just use the system and you'll get more efficient." No. You won't. You'll just do inefficient work in a more expensive system.

The question nobody asks: are we getting things done faster, or just clicking more buttons?

Real example. Before "Digital Thread": Engineering creates BOM in 2 hours. Manufacturing receives and validates in 30 minutes. Total: 2.5 hours.

After "Digital Thread" done wrong: Engineering enters data in PLM, 3 hours because more fields are required. Approval workflow takes 2 days. Manufacturing receives it instantly — automated! But then manufacturing reviews 47 new fields for 2 hours. Total: 5+ hours plus 2 days.

"But it's automated!" You automated a bad process.

The questions you should ask before implementing systems: How do we plan on using this together? How is change going to propagate? How do my teams actually communicate? Are we facilitating process or just digitizing chaos?

Process design beats technology selection every time. Technology without process equals expensive inefficiency.

That 90% reduction in change orders? 30% came from technology. 70% came from fixing the process first.

Are you implementing systems or improving processes? Tell us in the comments.
