'THOUSANDS Flee Goma Amid Fears of Another Mount Nyiragongo Eruption in DR Congo'

Tens of thousands of people are fleeing the city of Goma and nearby towns in eastern Congo.

There are fears of another volcanic eruption at Mount Nyiragongo, which spewed lava last week.

Authorities ordered as many as one million people to evacuate on Thursday after magma had reportedly been detected underneath Goma and nearby Lake Kivu.

Drone footage shows residents fleeing Goma on Thursday.

Crowds left the city carrying just a few belongings with them, and flooded the roads seeking shelter.

Many people were seen heading northwest toward the town of Sake and east toward Rwanda.

Mount Nyiragongo, one of the world's most active volcanoes, turned the sky fiery red on Saturday.

Torrents of lava destroyed more than 500 homes and resulted in the deaths of at least 32 people.
