Creating a church broadcast web streaming mix from your main PA mix
With more and more churches live streaming their services on their website, Facebook and YouTube and also posting the entire service—with the music included—on platforms like Vimeo, the need for a good broadcast mix is becoming more of a necessity. Our broadcast mix at the church is based off the board mix of the live PA in the room, but there’s several things we do to make it a good source for broadcast as well.
This video covers:
1. Examples of our actual broadcast mix
2. Use panning to create depth even if your main live mix is in mono
3. Adding audience and room mics to add presence to the mix
4. How to fix the volume of the music and the speaking microphones being so different
5. Adding EQ and compression on the final broadcast mix

My friend Jake Gosselin at Churchfront created a video of the broadcast room at Red Rocks Church in the Colorado Springs area. If you’re wanting to create a separate studio setup for your broadcast mix instead of basing it off the house mix, this is a great example.

This is my second time to create a broadcast mix from the house mix. When I was at a previous church, I created a video on this same topic three years ago.
