Skating into the Wild Ice | Steve Jobs Motivational Speech

Most of us in the skating community are affected by COVID-19 to some extent. Some lost their loved ones, some lost their jobs, some suffered depression because of the prolonged period of lockdown and home confinement. We started this Youtube project over a month ago because we had been feeling down for so long and we were looking for a way out.

What's more beautiful than watching all the beautiful skaters' moves and stories? Figure Skating is one of the hardest sports in the world yet it is not as high profile or well-compensated as compared to other sports like football / soccer, tennis, golf etc. Skaters are mostly doing it out of their passion. They put in their hard work, dough, sweat, tear and blood to create a piece of art on ice. And they are pushing the human limit. We get the feeling because as skaters ourselves, there is something unique about skating on ice, listening to wind passing by your ears and feeling that you are flying. The feeling is addictive. It's our meditation.

During lockdown, most rinks are closed to the public. Borders closed. Events canceled. That means no traveling and no skating. It's depressing. Somehow, we started this project - making videos about skating as we want to appreciate everything beautiful in life. This is our medicine and our pain killers.

We don't know where this project will lead us to. But we know that if we don't do anything now, there would be no dot for us to connect in the future. Every bit of your comments, your subscriptions, your likes, mean the world to us.

Coronavirus Pandemic is a reminder that there is no control button in life and how fragile our lives can be. Remembering that you are going to die one day is the single best invention, as Steve Jobs once said in his Stanford commencement speech 2005. That was the speech of the century, probably one of the greatest speeches of all time.

This is the first time we try to do a music remix with speech, as a way of expressing our loves for figure skating, freestyle skating, wild ice skating, nature, and Steve Jobs (And his team) who created the most beautiful products in the world, iPhone, iPad, iMac and Macbook which we are using now to create the videos and writing this article. In 1 month time (5 Oct) would be his 9 years death anniversary. Hope it serves as a tribute to him.
