Lauren came to me burnt out, paralysed and convinced she couldn't stick to exercise
Lauren came to me burnt out, paralysed and convinced she just wasn't someone who could commit to exercise.
She had a demanding job, she was running on empty, and every time she tried to do something about it the overwhelm would kick in before she even started. All or nothing thinking had been running the show for so long she couldn't see a way around it.
So we didn't try to change everything at once. We started by teaching her how to prioritise and organise in a way that actually worked for her brain. Then we only added, changed or developed one thing at a time and only once the previous thing was almost easy. Deliberately taking that all or nothing wiring and making it digestible enough to build momentum from instead of trying to do everything from a standing start.
She walks more now. She delegates more. She asks for help more. And the all or nothing thinking that used to stop her before she started has loosened its grip enough that she can take incremental steps towards things that felt impossible before.
She described working with me as supportive, encouraging and kind. But what I think she was really describing was finally having a space where the paralysis wasn't treated as laziness.
If all or nothing thinking is what's keeping you stuck, comment what you're trying to achieve below.
