Finland joining Nato would not be 'against anyone', its president stresses

Finland has not yet become a member of  Nato, the intergovernmental military alliance, but the country's president said it would be to 'maximise security' and not be in any way offensive.

Finland’s president, Sauli Niinisto said Russia's invasion of Ukraine had pushed his government and country to think about its security. Niinstro was speaking at a joint news conference with UK prime minister Boris Johnson, after signing a new security agreement that would involve Britain providing military assistance if Finland is attacked
