A man who was looking for a 'project' car to do up on eBay has told how he ended up buying a FIRE ENGINE.

Dad-of-two Lawrence Garbett was looking for a cheap vehicle to work on after doing up a classic Rover last year.

But he ended up bagging himself a bargain when he found a fully functional fire engine for sale on the auction site for just £1500 - and now uses the 12 tonne truck as a runaround in Cannock, Staffs.

And despite never intending to impersonate a firefighter, he was thrilled when he realised other drivers were only too happy to let him out at junctions, and even pull over to let him pass at rush hour - even when he's only on his way to the shops.
